Dee’s Thanksgiving

I wanted to write and let you all know the latest happenings. My Mom planned on spending the week of Thanksgiving with us and flew here on Tuesday. When I met her airplane, she was in tremendous pain in her abdomen. Shades of Hog last year.

Pat and I took her to emergency in Harrisburg, and it turns out that she had a bowel obstruction and needed immediate surgery. That day we went in at 2 p.m.; she was in the waiting room for 3 hours before there was a bed in emergency for her, and I didn’t leave until 6 the next morning. It was a bad day for her because she was in so much pain, although they did help her out with medication but couldn’t do much of that until they could determine what was causing her pain.

After all of her tests were back around 11 pm, the surgeons came and gave us the worse case scenarios, and she went under the knife at 4 a.m. I waited til after surgery to talk to the doctor and got the word that she had an ulcer that burst and made a hole in her colon.

She’s in the hospital here now and not due to be released until at least the middle of next week. And after that, she’ll need Home Health care with us.

Recovery from this is tough because her bowel leaked into her abdomen, so right now, she has tubes draining her abdominal area, keeping it clean and still. No food, no water.

She’s a tough lady, but this is hard.

I wanted my friends to know. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
