The 40th Balta Reunion has not been cancelled!

January 19, 2010

Some of you may have received a cancellation notice from Facebook for the 40th reunion. THE REUNION STILL STANDS; IT HAS NOT BEEN CANCELLED!!  I had to cancel the first Event posting because there was an error in it, which forced Facebook to send out cancellation notices to those invited.  There is a new, correct Event notice on here in its place under the Balta Facebook group.

BALTA Annual Reunion 40

October 21-24, 2010

“Keep Austin Weird”

In an effort to help Austin live up to its motto, “Keep Austin Weird” (and give ya’ll an opportunity to return to Texas), I have agreed to host the 2010 BALTA Reunion, our 40th, here in the Austin Hill Country.

Officially, BAR 40 will be 4 days and 3 nights, October 21-24, so save those dates.  We are reviewing several excellent locations that will meet our needs, and as soon as we have an idea of how many people will be here, we will announce the chosen site.  Most likely it will be along the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels, (50,000 pop.) or Gruene, (20 or so pop.) south of Austin.

There are many, many things to do in the Austin area, and I will send reminders every couple of weeks with additional information about the Hill Country, suggested activities for October, details on the chosen location – and things I failed to mention here.  If you have anything special you want to do while here, let me know and we will make arrangements.

We are going to have a good time.  According to CNN Headline News and Travel & Leisure magazine, Austin ranks No. 1 on the list of cities with the best people (I’m sure there are nice people where you live too), and in 2009 Austin was determined to be the least stressful large metro area by Forbes magazine.  So, with the keeping it weird thing, we should all feel right at home.

Let me know that you are coming by sending a $50 deposit for each person in your party by March 15 (ides of March), 2010. If you plan to stay longer, let me know; we are willing to help with arrangements if needed.

Making a reservation is important so we can have a better idea about how large a place we need, and we are counting on this being the largest reunion ever.  So, as soon as you can, make your check out to Tom Forrest (with BAR 40 on the “For” line) and send to:

Dan’s Celebration, 1/16/10

Pat is attending the ceremony.  And he sent some behind-the-scenes photos, which are below.  During the celebration of Dan’s life, he is going to give Heidi a note regarding our Balta memorial to Dan.

When I get more photos, I’ll post them.
