Call for action … 2010 Balta Reunion!

BALTA Annual Reunion 40

October 21-24, 2010

“Keep Austin Weird”

In an effort to help Austin live up to its motto, “Keep Austin Weird” (and give ya’ll an opportunity to return to Texas), I have agreed to host the 2010 BALTA Reunion, our 40th, here in the Austin Hill Country.

Officially, BAR 40 will be 4 days and 3 nights, October 21-24, so save those dates.  We are reviewing several excellent locations that will meet our needs, and as soon as we have an idea of how many people will be here, we will announce the chosen site.  Most likely it will be along the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels, (50,000 pop.) or Gruene, (20 or so pop.) south of Austin.

There are many, many things to do in the Austin area, and I will send reminders every couple of weeks with additional information about the Hill Country, suggested activities for October, details on the chosen location – and things I failed to mention here.  If you have anything special you want to do while here, let me know and we will make arrangements.

We are going to have a good time.  According to CNN Headline News and Travel & Leisure magazine, Austin ranks No. 1 on the list of cities with the best people (I’m sure there are nice people where you live too), and in 2009 Austin was determined to be the least stressful large metro area by Forbes magazine.  So, with the keeping it weird thing, we should all feel right at home.

Let me know that you are coming by sending a $50 deposit for each person in your party by March 15 (ides of March), 2010. If you plan to stay longer, let me know; we are willing to help with arrangements if needed.

Making a reservation is important so we can have a better idea about how large a place we need, and we are counting on this being the largest reunion ever.  So, as soon as you can, make your check out to Tom Forrest (with BAR 40 on the “For” line) and send to:

Tom Forrest

BAR 40

1207-B E. 2nd Street

Looking forward to hearing from you and to BALTA’s return to Texas for its 40th Annual Reunion.

“Keep Austin Weird.” Now, THAT’S a goal for BALTA. I will be there and do my best. Besides, TX liquor stores stock a great variety of (drool, drool) TEQUILA!

  2. Bill Shea Says:

    Hi Tom,

Check’s in the mail (really). Megan would like to make it also but it’s way too early to commit. She’d be content to sleep in the barn anyway. Just so fresh straw…

    Can’t wait,

  3. Fool Says:

The Ides of March did you say?? Has Hog anything to do with this? Is this why he didn’t kill me last year? Et tu, Tom!

You AGREED to host the reunion?? You weren’t at Ruidoso 10 minutes when I heard that you “agreed” to host it!

My vote, Foolish though it may be, is to have the reunion in Greune, with its population of 20. We could all become bona fide residents (much as I did when Gleason had me register to vote for his Congressional candidate 20 minutes after I arrived in Indianapolis way back when). We could hold an election and elect Maddog as the Shaman of Gruene and its surrounds. We could secede from Texas and form our own government. The Balta Manifesto would be the rule of the land. We could finally send Hannan to the Presidency! Ken Gay and Curt Simonson could open up a wine store and we could import Maxlrain!

    We could……………………………..

  4. Maddog Johnny Freyermuth Says:

….. and we could, thanks to Tom and our great BALTA chefs, have enough food and beverages left over so as to enable the citizens of Gruene to be amply fed and inebriated for the rest of their lives.
    We could ………….
