BAR43 Directions from Kerry

September 26, 2013
Hi All,
Directions below are from the Philadelphia International Airport:
These directions—-(Rand-McNally Maps)—and the easiest way to go. The only exception to these directions is that after you turn right on Melrose Avenue (#11), you must turn left onto N. Maine Avenue and then to 408 N. Maine Avenue. Should you miss Melrose, the next three right turns will also get you onto N. Maine.
Your GPS may take you on an alternate route to the above and is harder to follow—lots of slight turns bear in this direction or that. etc.

I would love to know if anyone in our group or otherwise has a recording of Carl Baer and Dan Fridena together that they would make a copy of for me –

The actual closing of the 18th USASA Field Station, Bad Aibling

July 8, 2012
Though narrated as the closing of the Indian / Pakistani border, this short video actually shows the decommissioning of BA as an American Spy Station and being returned to the Germans.  Interesting.

Bad Aibling 2012

May 29, 2012
Jerry Herbert was stationed at BA with me in the late ’60’s.  He just got back from Germany and took the attached pictures.  Looks like BA is now a Soccer Headquarters.  You might recognize some of these pictures from the past. Please share.

Thanks,
Ken Gay

Yea, Elizabeth!

February 29, 2012

After 50+ years of pledging her allegiance to America as a British Citizen, last Friday Elizabeth made it official when she raise her right hand and took the oath to become a U.S. citizen.  There were 162 others from 67 countries who were sworn in at the same ceremony with her.   The air was filled with emotion and pride from those becoming American Citizens and from those of us witnessing it.  The photo I have attached shows the emotion that Elizabeth was feeling as she pledged her allegiance to her new homeland.  Yesterday she registered to vote and today we will renew my passport and apply for her first U.S. passport.  We are pleased and excited about her chance to vote for the first time in her life.
Hope you are all well-

Mike

Balta Group Page on Facebook

October 22, 2011

We have a fairly lively group page on Facebook called Balta.

I like it because unlike this blog anyone can post on the page.  It only allows short posts but it has given us all a way to communicate with each other.  We can also post photos there.

I’m happy to also post for you on the Balta blog, so keep that going.

I’ve recently learned that it’s not easy for newbies to find the Facebook page.  If you’d like to add it to your Groups on Facebook but can’t find it, send me an email.  If we’re already Facebook friends, I can add you to the Balta group.  If we aren’t friends, that’s the first step.  Email me first that you’re requesting to connect as a FB friend (so I know what’s going on and that you want to be included in the Balta group!); I’ll accept your friend request and then add you to the group.  You can leave the group at any time, if you wish.

BAR42 Reunion site and dates

October 1, 2011

Drink up, ya bums!  We’re going to Washington in 2012.  Index, WA to be exact.  The dates for it are October 4-7, 2012.

Hosting is are Dan and Kristi Hayden, and you’ll be hearing more from them in the months leading up to it.

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

Also, while I’m posting, I wanted to mention the Balta group page on Facebook.  A lot of the group has been posting on the group wall, so it’s a good way to get in contact with folks also.

Search for Balta.  The word Group will be below the name and also 78 members.

Frau Rohleder

April 8, 2011
Hi,
My wife and I lived in an apartment on 3rd floor of Rohleder Gaus Haus on Linden Str from fall 62 until winter of 65.
We kept contact for several years, but seemed to have lost contact after Frau Rohleders passing. She had two daughters, Erica and Rose Marie. Any information concerning family would be appreciated.
